About Us

Nottinghamshire Chess Foundation
Nottinghamshire Chess Foundation is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) registered with the Charities Commission (reg. no. 1194887).
It was founded in June 2021, following the sad loss of the late Robert Richmond, a leading chess organiser and player, who provided a generous legacy for the purposes of chess development in the County and neighbouring areas.

Governance
As a registered charity the NCF is a self-governing body independent of any other chess organisation in Nottinghamshire or nationally and is subject to the legal requirements of the Charities Commission.
However, trustees do have close links with the main chess body in the area – Nottinghamshire Chess Association. Three of the trustees are nominated by the NCA to serve for a period of 3 years.

The objects of the NCF are stated as follows:
(1) the advancement of amateur sport by promoting the study and practice of chess in all its forms, principally, but not exclusively, for the benefit of the residents of, and for all people who have lived, worked, studied or played league chess in the County of Nottinghamshire and surrounding areas; and
(2) the advancement of education by promoting the development of people through the teaching and practice of chess.
Each object will be achieved by provision of financial support to chess projects initiated by not-for-profit organisations, groups and individuals.
The full governing document of the NCF (the Constitution) is available on request.
